Doctors recommend Bellefit compression girdles and corsets for the treatment of these medical conditions which are most commonly experienced by women after childbirth.
The rectus abdominis muscles are found on the abdomen and are commonly referred to as the abs or “6 pack” muscles. There is a small band of tissue, called the linea alba, that connects the right and left side of the rectus abdominis muscles and is located at the midline of the body. Diastasis recti is a condition in which there is a weakening of the linea alba allowing for an abnormally large separation between the rectus abdominis muscles. This widening of the linea alba allows for bulging of the abdomen and an appearance of still appearing pregnant after delivery.
A hernia is the result of an organ or tissue protruding through an opening in the muscles. While a hernia can occur in many areas of the body, they most commonly develop in the abdominal and groin areas during pregnancy. Developing a hernia during the course of your pregnancy is not always an immediate concern; in fact, most physicians recommend waiting until after you give birth to have the hernia treated. However, hernias rarely, if ever, go away on their own and must eventually be treated. Left untreated, a hernia will progressively worsen in severity and eventually become more serious can eventually lead to life-altering complications.
Back pain, especially in the lumbar or sacral regions, is a common condition experienced during pregnancy. In fact, nearly 1 out of every 2 pregnant women can expect to experience acute or chronic pain the in lumbar or sacral regions of the spine. The pain in these areas is typically temporary and a direct result of pregnancy-induced weight gain and hormonal changes, and often contributes to pain, sleep-disturbances, and other discomforts experienced during the course of the pregnancy.
Hip pain can be debilitating — especially when you are tasked with carrying a baby. The extra pressure and strain on your joints causes hip pain that pregnant women often misdiagnose and neglect to seek treatment for. Hip pain comes from various sources during pregnancy. Most women start to develop the joint pain during the second trimester, right as you start to develop a “baby bump.” The change in your walking style, the loosening of your ligaments holding together the sacroiliac joints, and sleeping on your side later in pregnancy all can add to hip pain. Another cause is pressure on your sciatic nerve, formally called Sciatica. Sciatica can cause pain, numbness, and/or tingling in the buttocks, hips, and thigh. This is where appointments with your physician are especially useful, as Sciatica can lead to serious complications.
Subluxation of symphysis is also known as symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD). This is a condition that causes excessive movement of the pubic symphysis. The symphysis is a midline, nonsynovial joint that connects the right and left superior pubic ram. Because of the misalignment of the pelvis, pain is associated with this diagnosis. Basically, this joint holds the right and left sides of the pelvic muscles together. When this joint becomes soft, pelvic muscles and bones move more freely. With the weight of a growing baby, this can become a painful condition.
The perineum is the tissue that is located between the vagina and the anus. There are layers to the tissue being skin, subcutaneous tissue, and the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor muscles are important muscles in regards to the passing of stool and urine. During vaginal delivery, the perineal tissue is stretched with the passing of the baby, mainly the head and shoulders, which can lead to tears of the perineal tissue. There are different grades ranging from 1 to 4 of perineal lacerations. Grades 1 and 2 are most common. Grades 3 and 4 are more severe with tearing of muscles and the anal sphincter. An episiotomy is an intentional perineal laceration made by the physician at the time of delivery. This was performed routinely some number of years ago, but is no long a routine procedure. Episiotomies are usually performed if there is concern for grade 3 or 4 perineal laceration or if there is concern to deliver the baby quickly.
The uterus is held in place by pelvic ligaments and muscles. The muscles can become weak or stretched out leading to a lack of support for the uterus. When the muscles become weak, the uterus may sag or descend from its normal position into the vagina. A uterovaginal prolapse is classified by its stage. A complete prolapse means part of the uterus has slipped so far that it protrudes from the vaginal opening. The difference with an incomplete uterovaginal prolapse is that the uterus becomes partially displaced into the vagina, but it does not protrude out.
The pelvic region of the body is the lowest part of the abdomen between the hip bones. The perineum in women refers to the area between the vagina and anus. Pelvic and perineal pain involves discomfort in either or both areas. Because the pelvic area and perineum are located near various organs, nerves, and muscles, pelvic and perineal pain is very common in women. The pain may come and go or be constant. The quality of the pain may vary based on the cause. The pain may be sharp, burn, or ache. Depending on the cause of the pain, symptoms may worsen when you move or use the bathroom.
Lower abdominal, inguinal, and groin pain is experienced due to the stretching of ligaments around the womb. As the womb becomes larger to accommodate the baby, the ligaments that hold the uterus in place must stretch. A certain ligament known as the round ligament is the culprit of your pain. This ligament attaches the front portion of the uterus to the groin. Normally, this ligament contracts and relaxes slowly when you sneeze, cough, or make rapid movements. During pregnancy everything speeds up and more weight is applied to the ligament. Due to the enlarging of the uterus during pregnancy, the round ligament is stretched and contracts more quickly, therefore causing pain.

Fit Fit as Expected
Currently 4 months PP with my first, who was born vaginally. During my pregnancy, I gained 50 lbs! Prior to pregnancy, I had abs and wore a size 2, so naturally I thought I’d never bounce back. Since I gained so much, I invested in two original corsets. After 3 weeks I was in my 2nd corset. By 6 weeks I was ordering my 3rd corset, that’s how fast this helped my belly shrink! Not just that, it kept my supporter the entire healing process and helped me feel “together”. The minor an separation I suffered has already closed back up! I’m so grateful for finding such a wonderful product, I will definitely be wearing mine again after we try and have our 2nd! Also, a recommendation. If you have fuller thighs and hips like myself, the corset thong is the best fit!

I love the thong concept, it’s great because I can wear jeans or pants and no line from the girdle shows! However, the part where it clips together, is VERY uncomfortable. It pinches and I find myself adjusting quite a bit when I wear it. That’s the only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5, I think if there were two clasps instead of three it might be more comfortable. Given that the thong is smaller width wise than the regular girdles it only makes sense to have fewer clasps.

Fit Somewhat Large
I was recommended on the site to get xxl. I got an xl and was still too big. Since I was responsible for shipping cost I didn’t return it. Decided 3 weeks later to order one size down and still had very bad service

I am in love with the original corset girdle but did notice it gave me a panty line so I decided to give the thong version a try. I am so glad I did. It makes my butt look great and leaves no panty lines. I feel nicely held together and supported. I was worried it might be uncomfortable but when I used it with the extender it was perfect. Definitely recommend this corset.
P.S. I followed the sizing guide and initially ordered a L. When I tried it on it ran large on me (probably bc my booty wasn’t taking up all the space the other does lol). I exchanged it for a M. Bellefit provided excellent customer service and gave me no hassle. Couldn’t be happier with this company and their products.

I’ve been wearing this for a week now and I love it. I was dreading having my 2nd c-section because of the recovery. This has helped my pain so much. I highly recommend it!

I ordered the girdle when my child was 2 months old. I thought I was too late purchasing the girdle for the 1st time. However, I was wrong. It is of great quality and very comfortable. I struggles with sizing as I kept losing weight and the customer service reps took the time to walk me through the process and assist with ordering smaller sizes. The customer service is impeccable and I would definitely order from bellefit again!

So excited that Bellefit came out with a thong option! It’s been a game changer for me. I feel confident when I wear my jeans and my work clothes knowing that people can not see that nasty split in my cheeks from the panty line. The thong piece is very comfortable and I am so happy with my purchase. For me I wear a size medium in the full underwear type however the thong I am a small, I think because it’s cut higher around the hips. I have a small waist but fuller hips. Hope this helps!

I absolutely love this girdle! Just had my third baby a week ago and put it on for the first time today. I used the pull on girdle after the birth of my second and it definitely gave me the “four butts” look. This one feels like it was made for me. I’m shaped like a triangle, heavier on bottom. The only thing is that I’m a small in the other girdle and even then it’s hard to get on. But this thong girdle the size small goes on easy and I feel like I need a tad more compression. That being said, I still feel supported and will wear it but I do recommend going down a size. I’m normally a small but in this girdle I need an extra small. Hope this helps someone:)

Fits great… I could only wear 2 weeks until I needed a new size so some thing is working right!

This thong corset is very supportive and is also invisible under my clothes. It helped me to wear my work clothes within 3 weeks of giving birth. Thank you!

Fit Somewhat Small
I purchased my first, right after giving birth. Now, it is a little loose and I am purchasing another one, this time a size smaller. The quality is amazing, the regular style is very comfortable. I tried the thong style, but it did not work for me. I highly recommend to wear after a baby, believe me, you will notice a difference in just a few days!!

This thong corset is amazing for postpartum! I saw results after just one week! Got a more defined waist and my belly pooch is almost gone! This was my third baby delivery, and for reference I’m 5’3″ and 120 lbs.
berenice.romero (verified owner) – 12/15/2018
I like the thong because there is no visible panty line with leggings or jeans. I also love the clip at the bottom rather than a just hole like other girdles making it much more comfortableand clean to go to the bathroom, that is one of the main reasons I bought Bellefit. I had a csection and was scared to put it on thinking it might hurt me but I was very pleased once I tried it on. I followed the sizing guide (XXL) but I wish I had sized down, I’m at 2 weeks PP and already find it a bit loose on the second row of clips. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because I find that the wires on the sides hurt me at the top, they dig in. I hope that makes sense! I solved the problem by wearing a tank top under the corset
ashleymoore81614 (verified owner) – 12/31/2018
Feels so good to feel pulled together and not frumpy under my clothes! O originally ordered a medium but I couldn’t get it to close once home from the hospital! But I got a large with the nye discount and it fits perfectly! I will keep the medium as I hopefully start to get back to my normal size!
dgund0031 (verified owner) – 01/16/2019
I love this product! I hold weight in my lower half of my body and have a long torso.I’m 5’8 and pre-pregnancy I weighed 160lbs and gained 55lbs during my pregnancy. According to the size chart I should have gotten a 2xl, but I went with my gut and ordered a large since this is a thong style and my bottom isn’t a factor. Thankfully I did because the large fit perfectly, I was in my bellefit 2 days after delivery. It’s been about 3 weeks since I gave birth and I’m already back ordering a size medium! My weight is still high- 195lbs. So my fellow long torso ladies, don’t follow the size chart!

Makes me feel small again!! Love it will buy another once I shrink down even more!
valeriapruneda (verified owner) – 02/08/2019
I used this a week after my csection birth! And oh how I wish I had this with my first! It’s so comfortable didn’t bother my incision and it made me feel like it was holding everything together! I love it and I’m going on my 4th week and definitely need another size since about a week ago! Will be purchasing another!
cindyhf (verified owner) – 03/05/2019
Perfect for post Partum and flattering to the behind. I use this as my “going out” and wear the corset girdle around the house. Love!!
sarahanneselke (verified owner) – 04/12/2019
I am 6’ tall and was concerned about fitting, but the large I ordered for immediately postpartum (vaginal delivery) fits well without using the extenders provided to increase the length! It is tight but holds everything in, and doesn’t seem too short on my torso. Makes moving around post partum much easier and reduced pain/abdominal discomfort. Obviously love the thong option as I did not want aggressive panty lines. Just have kept it on the loosest setting and hasn’t caused any perineal or groin discomfort, and am wearing light full bikini underwear underneath.
Newyork2422 (verified owner) – 04/15/2019
It was nice, chose size according to chart and was too big. Definitely could have used a M instead of a L but they were out of stock

Begin wearing after birth starting on the day that you are discharged from the hospital or when you feel ready to start wearing a thong style. Always wear your own underwear because the Corset is not a substitute for underwear. It’s optimal to begin wearing Bellefit right after birth; however, you will still see results if you begin to wear your girdle at any time during the first 6 months after the delivery.
Here’s why: Still present after childbirth for up to 6 months are hormones secreted during pregnancy. These hormones, Estrogen, progesterone and relaxin loosen the abdominal muscles, the pelvic structure and supporting ligaments and joints. Bellefit works together with your body’s natural process of recovery.
As a new mother, you likely have questions about what you can and cannot do after giving birth. There will be a period of rest and recovery following the birthing process that you’ll be recommended to take. So, how do you know if a postpartum girdle is right for you or not?
Among the many benefits that comes with wearing a postpartum girdle is how well it keeps things in place. With pregnancy weight being an issue for many women who have just given birth, a postpartum girdle helps compress the abdomen, giving you a seamless look that can be worn under dresses, skinny jeans, and sweatpants. It also provides extra support for the lower back which has a tendency to hurt whenever weight is gained.
Having a garment that keeps everything in place makes it easier for you to exhibit good posture and prevent muscle strain. That means that you won’t risk injuring yourself while you work to lose the extra weight you gained while pregnant.Bellefit products are designed to maximize comfort while providing support in all the right places. We offer a variety of styles of girdles to choose from, too, making it easy to find one that you love wearing.
The fact that your hips spread while pregnant to accommodate childbirth is quite the phenomenon. Your pelvis also makes room for the birthing process which may or may not include a vaginal delivery.
With the right corset or girdle, you’ll be able to narrow the distance between your hips and go back to looking like yourself once again.
As you work to lose the pregnancy weight, you’ll feel your hips and lower back being supported by the undergarment. Binding your hips in the eight weeks after giving birth helps pelvic joints go back to where they were prior to your pregnancy. That way, you won’t feel them being as spread-out as before.
A surge of hormones is something to be expected when pregnant. Don’t be concerned if your mood swings all over the place. It’s incredibly normal to feel the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
You will get back to your normal self soon. Even if you don’t, you’ll start to feel better about your situation. If your feelings of sadness or depression don’t go away, it’s time to speak to a licensed therapist who can help you on a clinical level. Your issue is far more complicated than just needing some extra rest or help around the house.
Your hormones will eventually settle and you’ll feel more at ease in your body. Don’t be surprised if there is a transitional period from giving birth to getting back to your pre-pregnancy self. You’ve got time, and with Bellefit, you’ve got tools! Our postpartum girdles have helped women from around the world feel more confident about their bodies after delivering.
As a pregnant woman, you’re required to follow lots of advice. The following list provides valuable insight and advice on what not to do after giving birth to a child. By following it and the suggestions given to you by your physician, you decrease the chances delaying your recovery. – Strenuous Exercising – Caffeine – Alcohol – Junk Food – Certain Types of Fish
It’s important that you steer clear of these things until your body has had time to fully heal and that you’re no longer breastfeeding your child. That way, you’re not taking any chances on you or your baby’s health. Instead, you’re postponing some of the things you may really be looking forward to doing, eating or drinking.
