Doctors recommend Bellefit compression girdles and corsets for the treatment of these medical conditions which are most commonly experienced by women after childbirth.
The rectus abdominis muscles are found on the abdomen and are commonly referred to as the abs or “6 pack” muscles. There is a small band of tissue, called the linea alba, that connects the right and left side of the rectus abdominis muscles and is located at the midline of the body. Diastasis recti is a condition in which there is a weakening of the linea alba allowing for an abnormally large separation between the rectus abdominis muscles. This widening of the linea alba allows for bulging of the abdomen and an appearance of still appearing pregnant after delivery.
A hernia is the result of an organ or tissue protruding through an opening in the muscles. While a hernia can occur in many areas of the body, they most commonly develop in the abdominal and groin areas during pregnancy. Developing a hernia during the course of your pregnancy is not always an immediate concern; in fact, most physicians recommend waiting until after you give birth to have the hernia treated. However, hernias rarely, if ever, go away on their own and must eventually be treated. Left untreated, a hernia will progressively worsen in severity and eventually become more serious can eventually lead to life-altering complications.
Back pain, especially in the lumbar or sacral regions, is a common condition experienced during pregnancy. In fact, nearly 1 out of every 2 pregnant women can expect to experience acute or chronic pain the in lumbar or sacral regions of the spine. The pain in these areas is typically temporary and a direct result of pregnancy-induced weight gain and hormonal changes, and often contributes to pain, sleep-disturbances, and other discomforts experienced during the course of the pregnancy.
Hip pain can be debilitating — especially when you are tasked with carrying a baby. The extra pressure and strain on your joints causes hip pain that pregnant women often misdiagnose and neglect to seek treatment for. Hip pain comes from various sources during pregnancy. Most women start to develop the joint pain during the second trimester, right as you start to develop a “baby bump.” The change in your walking style, the loosening of your ligaments holding together the sacroiliac joints, and sleeping on your side later in pregnancy all can add to hip pain. Another cause is pressure on your sciatic nerve, formally called Sciatica. Sciatica can cause pain, numbness, and/or tingling in the buttocks, hips, and thigh. This is where appointments with your physician are especially useful, as Sciatica can lead to serious complications.
Subluxation of symphysis is also known as symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD). This is a condition that causes excessive movement of the pubic symphysis. The symphysis is a midline, nonsynovial joint that connects the right and left superior pubic ram. Because of the misalignment of the pelvis, pain is associated with this diagnosis. Basically, this joint holds the right and left sides of the pelvic muscles together. When this joint becomes soft, pelvic muscles and bones move more freely. With the weight of a growing baby, this can become a painful condition.
The perineum is the tissue that is located between the vagina and the anus. There are layers to the tissue being skin, subcutaneous tissue, and the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor muscles are important muscles in regards to the passing of stool and urine. During vaginal delivery, the perineal tissue is stretched with the passing of the baby, mainly the head and shoulders, which can lead to tears of the perineal tissue. There are different grades ranging from 1 to 4 of perineal lacerations. Grades 1 and 2 are most common. Grades 3 and 4 are more severe with tearing of muscles and the anal sphincter. An episiotomy is an intentional perineal laceration made by the physician at the time of delivery. This was performed routinely some number of years ago, but is no long a routine procedure. Episiotomies are usually performed if there is concern for grade 3 or 4 perineal laceration or if there is concern to deliver the baby quickly.
The uterus is held in place by pelvic ligaments and muscles. The muscles can become weak or stretched out leading to a lack of support for the uterus. When the muscles become weak, the uterus may sag or descend from its normal position into the vagina. A uterovaginal prolapse is classified by its stage. A complete prolapse means part of the uterus has slipped so far that it protrudes from the vaginal opening. The difference with an incomplete uterovaginal prolapse is that the uterus becomes partially displaced into the vagina, but it does not protrude out.
The pelvic region of the body is the lowest part of the abdomen between the hip bones. The perineum in women refers to the area between the vagina and anus. Pelvic and perineal pain involves discomfort in either or both areas. Because the pelvic area and perineum are located near various organs, nerves, and muscles, pelvic and perineal pain is very common in women. The pain may come and go or be constant. The quality of the pain may vary based on the cause. The pain may be sharp, burn, or ache. Depending on the cause of the pain, symptoms may worsen when you move or use the bathroom.
Lower abdominal, inguinal, and groin pain is experienced due to the stretching of ligaments around the womb. As the womb becomes larger to accommodate the baby, the ligaments that hold the uterus in place must stretch. A certain ligament known as the round ligament is the culprit of your pain. This ligament attaches the front portion of the uterus to the groin. Normally, this ligament contracts and relaxes slowly when you sneeze, cough, or make rapid movements. During pregnancy everything speeds up and more weight is applied to the ligament. Due to the enlarging of the uterus during pregnancy, the round ligament is stretched and contracts more quickly, therefore causing pain.

I bought the corset girdle approximately 6 weeks ago from the Bellefit website. This was my third c-section and I needed to be able to get going and chase after my two other children. With my last two c-sections, it took me at least 6 months to feel better about exercising and I had also developed diastasis recti with my last pregnancy. The hospital gave me an abdominal binder but it did not look too nice under clothes when you leave the house and it was not very comfortable. I researched and found the bellefit corset. The website has a special calculator to help you determine your size but if you are between sizes, as I was, it is better to call their customer service. Also, I recommend purchasing a bundle instead of just one corset or girdle because you will shrink down wearing the initial one and need to go a size down. I wore my first one for at least 4 weeks and then was able to move to the next size down. Their customer service is excellent and will help you with any question you have. The girdle was quite tight at first and took a few days to get used to but now I love it. It fits under your clothes perfectly and people tell me all the time that I don’t even look like I had a baby when I’m not wearing it.

The corset is good because it does not roll down. If you are consistent in wearing it the belly goes down. The only con is the bottom part enters one’s buttocks. I also recommend that the corset should be worn as soon as one delivers.

After purchasing the CORSET-Girdle w/Hooks, I was amazed at how fast the shipping was! Also I started wearing it about 10 days after my third C-Section and I truly wish I had this product for my previous two. This is a lifesaver, it offers so much support in addition to making you feel better about the way you look after having a baby. Thank you so much. I’ll be telling everyone I know about this wonderful product.

It’s a great corset for c sect mommies. I wore it a size M after 7 days c sect and was down to S in just 3 weeks. I got the bundle with zipper binder in S. these are comfy enough to sleep in and not very warm in the tropical weather I live in. It has helped with pain and tightening of tummy which is wonderful since its my 3rd boy. Some parts will poke u and the top does roll down but I can live with these.

I purchased a Bellefit Dual Closure back in December 2012 after giving natural birth to my first child. The proccess of ordering was very easy and I had no trouble navigating thru their website. I used the online sizing because it offered a discount towards my purchase which was nice. The online sizing recommended a medium for me so that’s what I ordered. The girdle arrived within in 3 days! The first couple of days I noticed a big difference in the size of my waist and stomach. I could fit into my pre pregnancy jeans that week! This really helped boost my self esteem! I got so many compliments from family and friends saying how good I looked for just having a baby. It also provided great back support for me which was a great relief having had lower back contractions. After wearing it for a couple of weeks I just couldn’t get comfortable wearing it. I realized the medium was just too small for me at the time, I had gained 63 pounds with my pregnancy. So I contacted cusotmer service and addressed my issues with them. Bellefit customer service is the best! They were really concerned about my satisfaction and understanding. I was able to return the girdle and get refunded so that I can buy the larger size that I needed because the online sizing recommended the incorrect size. They even kept me informed as to when the package arrived back to them and when my money was returned to my account. I just had to order another a girdle from them because like I said I noticed the difference in my waist and stomach size when I was wearing it the very first week. And I love the way I looked and felt with it on. I had to tell all my girlfriends about it! I plan to have one more child so I will have my two sizes ready to go for my second one so I can start wearing it right away! Thanks Bellefit!

Love:Very well made, material is very comfortable, the opening at the bottom made it so easy use.I had a c section and it helped me soo much , I didnt feel at all like my guts were going to fall out,it felt like it held me in. Hate:The elastic at the top is very skinny and therefore it digs into ur skin or rolls down.apparently my torso is long and for it to fit right id either endure a murf or have the elastic pinch my upper torso.I wish Bellefit would roll out with a petite and a long version to accomodate different body types. It would be awsome if they also had the boy short or long leg version . All in all its comfy, well made and it has done what it said it did. Did I mention its super comfy? Over all money well spent.

After several stomach surgeries (nothing pregnancy related), I can’t believe I didn’t find something like this earlier. It’s a perfect fit and significantly reduces the pain as I start to move around more, since it holds everything in place. It is the perfect solution and fits nicely underneath clothes without anyone ever knowing. I highly recommend this product.
Tori McCormick – 11/18/2013
I ordered my bellefit six months after a c-section. I was given a medical grade band to help with post op swelling. I used that for a while but it was bulky under clothes. I like the bellefit corset but wish I had started using it sooner. I can tell it helps hold my muscles in but I am not seeing a great improvement in the size of my stomach area. I have only used it 2 months though. Only negative is the top of the corset digs into my skin. Otherwise I think its a good product.
Lorena Rodriguez – 11/26/2013
First of all, I would like to say that I wouldn’t be posting a review with a rating of 5 stars if I wasn’t truly satisfied with the product. I delivered my 2nd child on Friday 11/22/13 and started wearing my girdle the next day. I have been wearing it 24/7 since then. Although, it’s only been 3 days I can already see a significant difference. The girdle is very easy to put on and it gives great back support. The material is great quality. I order a large and a medium however, when I tried on the large it was a little bet too loose. After trying the medium I knew right away it was a better fit. I strongly recommend that if you buy a bundle try on the smaller size first. I would definitely be ordering a small and an extra small as needed. Customer service its very helpful and really try their best to make your shopping experience a pleasant one!
Sarah Williams – 12/17/2013
I am 5 weeks post Csection and my tummy has significantly shrunk in the 4 weeks that I’ve been wearing my bellefit. I moved to the smaller set of hooks by week 3! I will probably need to buy the next smallest size within a few more weeks. I love how everyone tells me how great I look and I attribute it to the bellefit. Love love love it!
Nataliya King (verified owner) – 01/19/2014
This is a great product that works very well!! I had a vaginal delivery and started wearing it on the 2nd day. So far it’s been just a week, but my belly shrunk visibly a lot! The quality of the girdle is outstanding!!
Katherine Swartz – 02/10/2014
Love the corset! However the part that goes between your legs is uncomfortable. A more comfortable design would make it a 5 star
HATHAVAN LOUNDARA – 02/12/2014
Although I was skeptical at first I decided to give Bellefit a try after reading all the good reviews online. I used the girdle with hooks corset after I had my little one, and let me tell you I’m glad I did. Their products are a bit pricey but well worth every penny. I was able to squeeze into my pre pregnancy pants about a month in after using this corset. I got compliments from those around me and the whole time it was a secret inside joke that only I knew why I had “lost all my baby weight.” They only thing is that after a couple of months I got lazy and stopped using it so I have a little pouch again. But no worries, there’s nothing that a little diet, exercise, and using this corset can fix. Definitely recommend this product to anyone who just had a baby. It works wonders.
Gina Iannelli – 04/12/2014
I am so thankful for bellefit. The corset I purchased really helped me reduce the size of my stomach. I’m not a super small girl and after my pregnancy I really wanted to jumpstart the shrinking. This item helped me do it. The only downside is that the top of the corset rolled down on me every once in a while. I also think as your stomach shrinks you need to purchase another corset in a smaller size. However, it is worth every penny and I would buy it all over again.
Brandi Eubanks – 05/26/2014
In preparation for my 4th c-section I decided to purchase the Belle fit corset after reading all of the great reviews and I am very happy that I did. My recovery was much easier this time around! I started wearing my Belle fit two after leaving the hospital and it gave me the support that I needed to care for my other children with very little discomfort. It has now been two weeks since delivering my son and my stomach is almost back to normal!! Great product!!!!
Angela Perry – 06/28/2014
I retained a tremendous amount of fluid during my pregnancy and my size two frame had expanded quite a bit. I began wearing the corset three days after I had my daughter and have gone from size M to size XS in less than 90 days. My core is solid, my back was strengthened, and the definition in my midsection has returned. This product lived up to its reputation and beyond. I couldn’t be happier and will use it for my next pregnancy. I have told anyone who will listen to purchase this product. Thanks Bellefit!!

2 months prior to my duedate a co worker of mine told me about belly bandit. While browing through it in youtube trying to get reviews i ran into bellefit video instead. I started looking into it by going to their website and read all the reviews and testimonials i was convince. It took me awhile to actually made up my mind because i never used any postpartum girdle from my first pregnancy and it’s pretty pricey. So i had to show it to my husband to get some kind of approval. He look into it and he said why not so 1 week prior to my due date i ordered the bundle #2 which is the corset and the side zipper type. I was super excited about it when i got it in the mail which I received within 2 business days. Fast forward… i started wearing the corset when i got home from the hospital. I kept it on 24/7. I only remove it when i take a shower or wash it. So far im loving the results. I could fit my size 6 jeans already and i was very surprise. Everyone keep asking me how i lost my tummy and what i’ve been doing to look slim right after a couple of weeks. Bellifit does gave me more self esteem that i actually take my time getting ready when i go places. Which is a plus because with my first pregnancy i didnt felt this great. So yes i would totally recommend bellefit to anyone. Not only help me feel great about myself but having it on help me mpve around without the pain. Cause i felt like a truck ran over me after i had my 7lbs baby. I never had those pains with my first so it was very helpful that i had the bellefit on. I could move around without a problem. I also notice cause of bellefit it helps me with my food intake. I dont over stuff myself like i was doing when i was still pregnant. So i love this product. So thank you bellefit! 😆

Vanessa Cayer – 12/07/2014
I received my Bellefit Corset within the same week of ordering, and was very happy to have it for a special night out. I felt more confident and looked great in the dress I wore.As moms know, the post pregnancy belly is less then flattering and makes us want to run for those baggy shirts and yoga pants. This item will have you pulling on the fitted tees again with confidence.I’m not a petite gal by any means, but the fit makes you feel smoothed and maybe not perfect prebaby body, but enough that the image is very close.I wore this to my dance class, as well as when I go for walks with my daughter. Even in extreme hit it was neither irritating nor chafing. It should speak volumes that it has been worn for hours of dancing too!Good luck all you moms out there!
Victoria Leslie – 02/27/2015
This was by far the best item I purchased for postpartum healing. I was a small girl before getting pregnant and managed to pack on 45 pounds. I had hip issues, really bad sciatica, and lots of swelling during pregnancy. I ordered the small and medium Bellefit and hoped for the best. They arrived within the week I placed the order, which was 2 weeks before I delivered. I wanted to wait as long as possible, to get the correct measurements. I was induced at 39 weeks and took the medium Bellefit with me to the hospital. I didn’t have to lay down to get the corset hooked, I really imagined it would be a hassle getting into it. By day 2 I could see a huge difference in my stomach. By 10 days postpartum I was back in my size 8 jeans, and 3 days later I was in size 4’s. I still haven’t started wearing the small corset yet, I plan to do that at 21 days postpartum. Also, there were days I needed to take the Bellefit off, for whatever reason, and I could see a major difference in how my back and abdominal area felt. Having that tight support really helped with back pain.

Having my second child I was a little nervous about returning t my pre pregnancy figure. I had read all the reviews and thought, why not give it a try? I gave birth to my son naturally on Sunday and ordered the girdle a day later. By that Friday I had recorded it and could only hook a small to the first row. By the second week, I was able to go to the farther second row. I was wearing my jeans and regular clothes in no time!! I am now almost 6 weeks out and am ready to order an extra small!! The support is amazing and it is so comfortable to wear!!
Deborah Swain – 04/11/2015
Love, love, love this product. I delivered twin babies in August and both were a healthy 8 lbs 5 oz and 7 lbs 4 oz. Prior to this pregnancy I was a size 0/1 and after the first week, I lost 40 lbs, leaving me with 12 lbs to go. I bought this product because I was experiencing diastasis recti (separation of muscles) of 2″ after pregnancy and needed assistance in getting these muscles back together. I was apprehensive about ordering the recommended size of XS because I thought it was going to be too small but it has been perfect. After only a couple of weeks, I’m on the lowest setting; my muscles are healing quickly and I can visually tell when I haven’t worn it for a day (it truly holds everything in tight). One mistake I made in the beginning was putting the corset on while standing…def fasten the hooks while laying on the bed as it seats the corset much more comfortably on your body. Once I figured this out, the ribbing was no longer an issue and the corset stayed up in the correct position longer (over the ribs and to the chest). I highly recommend to anyone post partum.
Jennylle Zanzi – 06/18/2015
I started as a size 2-4 in my pre-pregnancy clothes. I’m 5 foot tall with an hour glass figure. I gained 38 pounds and delivered a 6lb,13oz baby boy after an intense labor that ended up in a c-section. On my second day of recovery my doctor ordered me an abdominal binder which took two people to put on me and I wore it for two days, then I switched to my bellefit girdle with hooks, size small, on the fourth day. I squeezed into it and my husband latched all the hooks into the first row of eyes, it felt tight, but amazing! I was able to walk with a straight back and a tight core without any discomfort! The nurses were amazed at how well I was moving around without ever needing pain meds! I wore my bellefit corset 24/7, only taking it off to shower daily. My stomach shrunk immediately, and by day 5 postpartum, I was able to lie on my back in my bed and latch the hooks to the second row of eyes(the tightest closure) by myself! On day 7 postpartum, I went to my workplace to introduce my new baby and my coworkers couldn’t believe how small my waist was and told me I didn’t look like I just had a baby. I am currently writing this on my third week postpartum, day 21, and I am almost able to close the button on my prepregnancy shorts size 4! I will definitely be able to fit in them in another week. I intend on wearing my corset for the recommended six weeks. This has been an amazing recovery! Thank you bellefit!!
Tom Engen Aslaksby – 07/31/2015
I love the girdle! Bellefit Customer Service people sent me this one after I got one that didn’t fit.I have to say they did a good job and the girdle helps a lot, it supports my core muscles … a must have 🙂
Erin Nickle – 09/17/2015
I had very high hopes for this girdle. I followed the sizing finder steps and was prompted to order a medium. The day after I gave birth I attempted to put it on but couldn’t get it past my knees. I tried again a few days later and was able to get it up, but found it too tight to wear.

Begin wearing after birth on the day that you are discharged from the hospital. It’s optimal to begin wearing Bellefit right after birth; however, you will still see results if you begin to wear your girdle at any time during the first 6 months after the delivery.
Here’s why: Still present after childbirth for up to 6 months are hormones secreted during pregnancy. These hormones, Estrogen, progesterone and relaxin loosen the abdominal muscles, the pelvic structure and supporting ligaments and joints. Bellefit works together with your body’s natural process of recovery.
As a new mother, you likely have questions about what you can and cannot do after giving birth. There will be a period of rest and recovery following the birthing process that you’ll be recommended to take. So, how do you know if a postpartum girdle is right for you or not?
Among the many benefits that comes with wearing a postpartum girdle is how well it keeps things in place. With pregnancy weight being an issue for many women who have just given birth, a postpartum girdle helps compress the abdomen, giving you a seamless look that can be worn under dresses, skinny jeans, and sweatpants. It also provides extra support for the lower back which has a tendency to hurt whenever weight is gained.
Having a garment that keeps everything in place makes it easier for you to exhibit good posture and prevent muscle strain. That means that you won’t risk injuring yourself while you work to lose the extra weight you gained while pregnant.Bellefit products are designed to maximize comfort while providing support in all the right places. We offer a variety of styles of girdles to choose from, too, making it easy to find one that you love wearing.
The fact that your hips spread while pregnant to accommodate childbirth is quite the phenomenon. Your pelvis also makes room for the birthing process which may or may not include a vaginal delivery.
With the right corset or girdle, you’ll be able to narrow the distance between your hips and go back to looking like yourself once again.
As you work to lose the pregnancy weight, you’ll feel your hips and lower back being supported by the undergarment. Binding your hips in the eight weeks after giving birth helps pelvic joints go back to where they were prior to your pregnancy. That way, you won’t feel them being as spread-out as before.
A surge of hormones is something to be expected when pregnant. Don’t be concerned if your mood swings all over the place. It’s incredibly normal to feel the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
You will get back to your normal self soon. Even if you don’t, you’ll start to feel better about your situation. If your feelings of sadness or depression don’t go away, it’s time to speak to a licensed therapist who can help you on a clinical level. Your issue is far more complicated than just needing some extra rest or help around the house.
Your hormones will eventually settle and you’ll feel more at ease in your body. Don’t be surprised if there is a transitional period from giving birth to getting back to your pre-pregnancy self. You’ve got time, and with Bellefit, you’ve got tools! Our postpartum girdles have helped women from around the world feel more confident about their bodies after delivering.
As a pregnant woman, you’re required to follow lots of advice. The following list provides valuable insight and advice on what not to do after giving birth to a child. By following it and the suggestions given to you by your physician, you decrease the chances delaying your recovery. – Strenuous Exercising – Caffeine – Alcohol – Junk Food – Certain Types of Fish
It’s important that you steer clear of these things until your body has had time to fully heal and that you’re no longer breastfeeding your child. That way, you’re not taking any chances on you or your baby’s health. Instead, you’re postponing some of the things you may really be looking forward to doing, eating or drinking.
The Corset is adjustable and has two rows of hook and eye closures in the front that are separated by an inch apart. As your body transforms after your delivery, you can adjust the setting when slightly more or less compression is needed.
This post-pregnancy corset also has a convenient crotch closure that allows you to use the restroom or change your underwear and pads comfortably without needing to take it off each time.
Yes! The front hook and eye closures of the Corset are designed with the incision in mind.
The Corset is not bulky and is flush with your skin; however because of the closure location, it may be slightly visible underneath certain fabrics or if you are wearing a fitted top. Keep in mind though that your comfort and healing process is the most important factor!
Yes! The Corset is an excellent option for either delivery method.
Yes! The Corset is recommended in the case of an abdominal surgery that may or may not be the result of a pregnancy.
Yes. There are two rows of the hook and eye closures that are separated by an inch apart so you can tighten your girdle when more or less compression is needed throughout your recovery.
Since the Corset is adjustable, it is suitable for all body shape types.
Begin wearing your Corset the day that you are discharged from the hospital or as soon as you are ready to wear it after the delivery. It’s optimal to begin wearing Bellefit right after birth; however, you will still see results if you begin to wear your girdle at any time during the first 6 months after the delivery. As always, consult with your physician to make sure the Corset is right for you since every recovery process is so unique.
