Doctors recommend Bellefit compression girdles and corsets for the treatment of these medical conditions which are most commonly experienced by women after childbirth.
The rectus abdominis muscles are found on the abdomen and are commonly referred to as the abs or “6 pack” muscles. There is a small band of tissue, called the linea alba, that connects the right and left side of the rectus abdominis muscles and is located at the midline of the body. Diastasis recti is a condition in which there is a weakening of the linea alba allowing for an abnormally large separation between the rectus abdominis muscles. This widening of the linea alba allows for bulging of the abdomen and an appearance of still appearing pregnant after delivery.
A hernia is the result of an organ or tissue protruding through an opening in the muscles. While a hernia can occur in many areas of the body, they most commonly develop in the abdominal and groin areas during pregnancy. Developing a hernia during the course of your pregnancy is not always an immediate concern; in fact, most physicians recommend waiting until after you give birth to have the hernia treated. However, hernias rarely, if ever, go away on their own and must eventually be treated. Left untreated, a hernia will progressively worsen in severity and eventually become more serious can eventually lead to life-altering complications.
Back pain, especially in the lumbar or sacral regions, is a common condition experienced during pregnancy. In fact, nearly 1 out of every 2 pregnant women can expect to experience acute or chronic pain the in lumbar or sacral regions of the spine. The pain in these areas is typically temporary and a direct result of pregnancy-induced weight gain and hormonal changes, and often contributes to pain, sleep-disturbances, and other discomforts experienced during the course of the pregnancy.
Hip pain can be debilitating — especially when you are tasked with carrying a baby. The extra pressure and strain on your joints causes hip pain that pregnant women often misdiagnose and neglect to seek treatment for. Hip pain comes from various sources during pregnancy. Most women start to develop the joint pain during the second trimester, right as you start to develop a “baby bump.” The change in your walking style, the loosening of your ligaments holding together the sacroiliac joints, and sleeping on your side later in pregnancy all can add to hip pain. Another cause is pressure on your sciatic nerve, formally called Sciatica. Sciatica can cause pain, numbness, and/or tingling in the buttocks, hips, and thigh. This is where appointments with your physician are especially useful, as Sciatica can lead to serious complications.
Subluxation of symphysis is also known as symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD). This is a condition that causes excessive movement of the pubic symphysis. The symphysis is a midline, nonsynovial joint that connects the right and left superior pubic ram. Because of the misalignment of the pelvis, pain is associated with this diagnosis. Basically, this joint holds the right and left sides of the pelvic muscles together. When this joint becomes soft, pelvic muscles and bones move more freely. With the weight of a growing baby, this can become a painful condition.
The perineum is the tissue that is located between the vagina and the anus. There are layers to the tissue being skin, subcutaneous tissue, and the pelvic floor muscles. The pelvic floor muscles are important muscles in regards to the passing of stool and urine. During vaginal delivery, the perineal tissue is stretched with the passing of the baby, mainly the head and shoulders, which can lead to tears of the perineal tissue. There are different grades ranging from 1 to 4 of perineal lacerations. Grades 1 and 2 are most common. Grades 3 and 4 are more severe with tearing of muscles and the anal sphincter. An episiotomy is an intentional perineal laceration made by the physician at the time of delivery. This was performed routinely some number of years ago, but is no long a routine procedure. Episiotomies are usually performed if there is concern for grade 3 or 4 perineal laceration or if there is concern to deliver the baby quickly.
The uterus is held in place by pelvic ligaments and muscles. The muscles can become weak or stretched out leading to a lack of support for the uterus. When the muscles become weak, the uterus may sag or descend from its normal position into the vagina. A uterovaginal prolapse is classified by its stage. A complete prolapse means part of the uterus has slipped so far that it protrudes from the vaginal opening. The difference with an incomplete uterovaginal prolapse is that the uterus becomes partially displaced into the vagina, but it does not protrude out.
The pelvic region of the body is the lowest part of the abdomen between the hip bones. The perineum in women refers to the area between the vagina and anus. Pelvic and perineal pain involves discomfort in either or both areas. Because the pelvic area and perineum are located near various organs, nerves, and muscles, pelvic and perineal pain is very common in women. The pain may come and go or be constant. The quality of the pain may vary based on the cause. The pain may be sharp, burn, or ache. Depending on the cause of the pain, symptoms may worsen when you move or use the bathroom.
Lower abdominal, inguinal, and groin pain is experienced due to the stretching of ligaments around the womb. As the womb becomes larger to accommodate the baby, the ligaments that hold the uterus in place must stretch. A certain ligament known as the round ligament is the culprit of your pain. This ligament attaches the front portion of the uterus to the groin. Normally, this ligament contracts and relaxes slowly when you sneeze, cough, or make rapid movements. During pregnancy everything speeds up and more weight is applied to the ligament. Due to the enlarging of the uterus during pregnancy, the round ligament is stretched and contracts more quickly, therefore causing pain.

had a vaginal delivery and looked 9 months pregnant the first few days after. I bought an M size based on my measurements from the site. I gained 60lb from 110lb pre-pregnancy. First time I wore it 5 days pp, I had difficulty closing the hooks, it was so tight. There are two sets of hooks, looser and tighter. My husband had to zip me up. It felt good and I had to use the second set of hooks as my belly started going down. In a week I couldn’t wear the girdle, it was too loose and pointless. I should have ordered a small size as well. I don’t know if it would have made a difference, but now at 2 months postpartum my belly is almost gone on its own, with just a little fat left to lose, I have 25 left to lose to be 110 again. In my case the girdle was not needed. Also I’m giving 4 stars for this otherwise well-made product because the crotch hooks are impossible to undo when on, so to use the bathroom I had to unhook the whole thing and pull it down. Inconvenient.BELLEFIT RESPONSE: Please contact us at your earliest convenience to email@example.com or 888-894-2951, your satisfaction is our top priority. We want to make sure you have a girdle that you can wear and benefit from.

This girdle is so comfortable and it truly provides with great support. It is really a well made product. I fully recommend it.
shadreka haynes – 08/12/2012
I ordered this girdle when I was 36 weeks. I birthed my daughter on Nov. 30 at 38 weeks 2 days gestation. It is now Dec. 8th, 1 week later and the results are crazy! I am not back to my pre-pregnancy weight because I gained 40lbs but if you were to see me you would not think for 1 second that I just had baby a week ago! I am really impressed as my stomach is actually flat! I am thinking that I will be able to order a smaller size within the next week or two!
Stefanie Tyx – 08/12/2012
I was so worried about getting back into my pre-pregnancy shape. I had bought the dual-closure girdle for the maximum coverage and I am glad I did. I had an unexpected C-section. This girdle was the best investment I made. I put it on the day I got home from the hospital. Within 5 days I could put my pre-pregnancy jeans on!!! Amazing! Not only was it amazing for vanity reasons, medically it assisted with my healing. Without the girdle on, it was harder for me to walk and move around and take care of my baby. I wore the girdle for 5 weeks and my stomach is completely flat! LOVE BELLEFIT!!! I have recommended it to all of my friends!

Started using this 3 weeks after I had a normal delivery. I initially was in between of buying this and sone other girdles that are cheaper. Good thing I made the right choice. This product is trully made in good quality that can reshape your body. It is firm and thight, just the way I wanted it. I would rate it as 5 stars but the only downside is that I did not use the zipper that much so I think just the corset is enough. That’s why I am buyng the corset as my second one. Other than that, everything is great! I already recommended this to my friends.
Jenny Taylor – 08/24/2012
I wasn’t sure which girdle to choose, so I ended up getting the Dual-Closure. I am SO happy that I did!!! I began wearing it right after my c-section and really liked that I had both closures options. I could not BELIEVE how it helped me feel comfortable enough to move around and I really wish I would have known about Bellefit for my first pregnancy…what a difference!
Natalie Ybara – 08/30/2012
I am in love with my Dual Closure bellefit! I ordered it the week before I was due and shipping was super fast so I was able to bring it with me to the hospital. I started wearing it right after I gave birth to my little girl and am really amazed at how quickly I was able to get back into my prepregnancy clothes. Felt so good to hear my friends tell me how great I looked and they could not believe that I JUST had a baby less than a month ago….I am almost ready to order my next size down!!! THANK YOU!!!! 🙂
megan schafer – 09/12/2012
This Girdle is great for helping jump start post-baby fitness… helps to flatten the tummy when the bellaband isn’t quite firm enough. the stiff side support can be a little uncomfortable if you wear it all day long, but it definitely works and I even wore it working out a few times.
Alexandra Thompson – 10/08/2012
Love my Dual! I ended up delivering early so I didn’t get to start wearing my girdle until about a week afterwards. As soon as I put it on I felt such a relief on my back which had been like a constant pain since even before my baby was born. Not only did it help my comfort level, but I was thrilled about how much better I looked…and I immediately noticed that I had so much more confidence when I was out and about. The Dual closures were easy to adjust and not too long after beginning to wear it I was able to tighten it all around to get it tighter to hold me in even more. I got the bundle with the dual and the girdle with hooks so will probably be ready to start wearing my small any day now! My sister just announced that she is expecting and I can’t wait to get her one too! Although the price was a little high for me, I see now that it was totally worth it. I have spent sooooo much money on the baby already and am happy that I decided to treat myself for a change!!
Isabella Postmus – 11/15/2012
The girdles are great! I was looking for some help for an 8cm muscle gap due to ‘Diastasis Recti’ after having twins and Twin-Twin Transfusion Syndrome (carrying excess amniotic fluid), and this product is helping to ‘close the gap’. Fantastic. Thank you.
Irene Peery – 12/12/2012
I had a c-section 2 1/2 weeks ago & bouncing back so much quicker with the dual closure girdle. I researched a lot and asked a lot of friends for recommendations. This has been well worth the money & has made me feel more secure & emotionally supported that I’m gaining my figure back which is a great feeling. The dual closure girdle is making the healing process much quicker than I expected. I have the next girdle size down & think I may be using that already at the end of this first month. I highly recommend this product. Being a very athletic person prior to pregnancy, I’ve been very picky on products I choose for myself. The Bellefit products by far have convinced me its the best product to help get your body back. Thanks for making these amazing products!!!
Amer Herceg – 12/13/2012
I wish I had known about this girdle during my first pregnancy. I gave birth a 6 days ago and I started wearing a medium dual closure girdle the same day I delivered (natural). At first it was very challenging to put on because I gained so much weight but I hadn’t husband help me close the hook and eye in the side as well as the zipper. It has been 6 days since I have birth and it looks like I’m already ready for the small size. It works great and provides great support!!! I would recommend this product to my expecting friends.
Erin Dial – 12/16/2012
Great fit! Great quality! Wish I had known about this during my first pregnancy! I highly recommend this girdle!
sue sipe – 12/28/2012
I purchased the dual closeure girdle for my daughter in law. It is her favorite of all gifts. Why? When she wears it she says she feels so good and looks great hiding the full tummy post partum look. She is back in all her regular clothes pre pregnancy and she had a c-section. She has particularly enjoyed the options in how to put it on. She is wearing it all day and removes it to go to bed. Wish I saw this site for the other two gals in our family when they had their children.
vivian vu – 02/15/2013
I love my belle fit girdle! I ordered this one because i wasn’t sure if I was going to have a natural birth or c-section, it was good having it handy before i went into labour. I had my baby not even 2 weeks ago and my belly has really shrunken so much. The good thing about the girdle is that it doesn’t ride up and stays put. I fell and injured my back which led to my labour coming early. So not only was I recovering from a c-section but also my back was in pain. The girdle really helped provide support to my abdomen and also it really helped my back. I was more able to walk around with this support than I was without the girdle on. I’ve already started recommending to my friends.
Nataliya Smaglo – 07/03/2013
I’ve ordered pull-up girdle first, and then this one of the smaller size. Also, I have tried Winks girdle, and I can say that I liked Bellefit better. The first one worked great, I could see results pretty quick, the second one is not as efficient and that could be due to the fact that I am 3 months post delivery now(thou I was told it still should help)Anyway, I still wear it, hoping I’d get some benefits. There’s one thing that I’m not satisfied with, and that is the fact that it rides down my ribs and pinches me on the sides. Other than that, it’s very well made, and of a good quality. I recommended it to others already 🙂
MARGARET DELOATCH – 12/17/2013
I prayed this girdle would do what it promised and it did! Three weeks after giving birth, my stomach is flatter than when I got pregnant. Of course there’s a lot of loose skin, but there’s plenty of time to tone in the future.
HATHAVAN LOUNDARA – 02/12/2014
I used the dual-closure girdle after I had my little one. I’m not sure how it exactly works but this product does work wonders. I immediately started using it right when I got home from the hospital and it helped me lose my pouch and baby weight really fast; I got compliments from family and friends constantly. Little did they know I was using this product. I was able to squeeze into my pre pregnancy pants a little over a month after using this product. Definitely recommend this miracle of a product!
Kathleen Kobin – 02/13/2014
I was so nervous I would be stuck looking pregnant for months…and Inhave to fit in my wedding dress by June! I bought the bundle ofdual clousure girdles. One in Medium and Small. I gave birth on 2/4 .. I STARTED wearing the Medium when I came home from the hospital. I could not zip up the side and I needed help closing the front even on the largest clasps. The next day I could zip it up. And my back was feeling so much better with all the support from the girdle! And 2 days after that I could wear the Medium all zipped up and on the tightest clasp. 1 week after starting im putting on the Small. My stomach is unbelievable I had to take pictures!! Its practically flat.looks like I just overate. I dont look pregnant at all! Cant wait to see what the Small is going to do!!!
DEBORAH TOSIN AKANYA – 04/21/2014
I ordered bellefit like 3 weeks before delivery it came quickly in the mail and I ordered a Medium which was perfect. I wore this girdle on the day of my delivery 3 hours after the baby was born and a week later I wasn’t showing my belly was down a considerable size flatter than my friends who have never had kids. I wore it for 3 weeks n stopped because I had back aches not sure if it was the girdle it just my body adapting to been a mummy. Well I forgot about the girdle for months and now 2 months later I ordered the size S which turned out to be big, I’m wearing the XS now and it’s perfect it holds me in hold everything in place and no one can tell I ever had a baby. I live these girdles it’s hard adjusting at first but at least you see results. I like the fact I can fit into my pre pregnancy jeans and u get compliments all over town. I love these will recommend to my friends.
Lisa Jones – 05/03/2014
I recently had my 6th delivery and my 5th c-section. Ive also had 2 sets of twins with this last delivery being the 2nd set of twins. I ordered the xlg and lg and started wearing it on day 4 post partum. I cannot tell you the difference it’s made in my recovery!!! Not only is it so supportive so I can get up and down a lot easier but I was able to stop my pain meds in a few days. I’ve also wore the abdominal binder that I got from the hospital on the out side for that extra support for the 1st two weeks. After about a week I could move the closures and zip the zipper. I’m 2 weeks post partum and I am going to try the lg one now. My stomach is so much flatter than after any delivery I’ve ever had!!! I will also wear it when I start working out because my ab muscles are shot and I’ll need that support. It’s not hard to use and it doesn’t bother me sleeping, sitting, wearing under my clothes, or general moving around. I only take it off to shower and it’s easily worn with the post partum pads ect… Can’t say enough wonderful things about this product and I recommend it to everyone I know who’s going to give birth!!!
Holly Bentley – 09/19/2014
I’m a first time mom with a C-Section delivery. I gained 40 lbs during my pregnancy and people told me it was all in my belly, I agreed. I came home from the hospital looking more than 6 months pregnant and even though I have some weight to lose, my stomach is so much flatter now at 8 weeks. The original dual closure corset I purchased was defective, and the top band started unraveling after 4 weeks. I wrote Bellefit, and after answering a questionnaire, they were able to ship out a replacement within 2 days. I was very grateful, and the replaced corset has worked wonderfully without any issues. I love buying from companies that take care of their customers.
Melissa Friedman – 10/09/2014
I had a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago today. The first few weeks I could not fit into the girdle, but used an abdominal binder as support. Yesterday I tried on the small dual-closure girdle and it finally fit. I am ever so grateful as I love the ultra firm support. I started back to my regular workouts today as well and cannot wait to get my old body back so I can fit into my old clothes again. I do not like feeling bloated and fat and did not realize just how bloated I would be after the hysterectomy and just how long it would last. I am just thankful I feel like I have made a huge step by fitting into the girdle now. I ordered two, but I replaced the other small for an extra-small, so that as I lose more of the bloating and “hopefully” lose some of the water weight and weight gain that I will then be able to wear the extra small. I could not be happier with my purchase and will definitely pass the information along to my friends or colleagues if they need to have a hysterectomy (as most of us are past and/or done with having children).
Lucretia Puentes – 12/18/2014
I ordered this a little late so received it three weeks after giving birth (a ‘natural labour’). My tummy had already gone down quite significantly but this helped to flatten me out (literally saw results after wearing it for just one day). I’ve continued wearing it to help my muscle recovery, and believe it’s been very helpful for this. The item itself is well designed and not unattractive. It’s easy to get in and out of, and quite comfortable (except for a small piece of boning on the right hand side that digs slightly, causing some discomfort and itchiness). Overall I would recommend this item to family and friends recovering from childbirth.

Begin wearing after birth on the day that you are discharged from the hospital. It’s optimal to begin wearing Bellefit right after birth; however, you will still see results if you begin to wear your girdle at any time during the first 6 months after the delivery.
Here’s why: Still present after childbirth for up to 6 months are hormones secreted during pregnancy. These hormones, Estrogen, progesterone and relaxin loosen the abdominal muscles, the pelvic structure and supporting ligaments and joints. Bellefit works together with your body’s natural process of recovery.
As a new mother, you likely have questions about what you can and cannot do after giving birth. There will be a period of rest and recovery following the birthing process that you’ll be recommended to take. So, how do you know if a postpartum girdle is right for you or not?
Among the many benefits that comes with wearing a postpartum girdle is how well it keeps things in place. With pregnancy weight being an issue for many women who have just given birth, a postpartum girdle helps compress the abdomen, giving you a seamless look that can be worn under dresses, skinny jeans, and sweatpants. It also provides extra support for the lower back which has a tendency to hurt whenever weight is gained.
Having a garment that keeps everything in place makes it easier for you to exhibit good posture and prevent muscle strain. That means that you won’t risk injuring yourself while you work to lose the extra weight you gained while pregnant.Bellefit products are designed to maximize comfort while providing support in all the right places. We offer a variety of styles of girdles to choose from, too, making it easy to find one that you love wearing.
The fact that your hips spread while pregnant to accommodate childbirth is quite the phenomenon. Your pelvis also makes room for the birthing process which may or may not include a vaginal delivery.
With the right corset or girdle, you’ll be able to narrow the distance between your hips and go back to looking like yourself once again.
As you work to lose the pregnancy weight, you’ll feel your hips and lower back being supported by the undergarment. Binding your hips in the eight weeks after giving birth helps pelvic joints go back to where they were prior to your pregnancy. That way, you won’t feel them being as spread-out as before.
A surge of hormones is something to be expected when pregnant. Don’t be concerned if your mood swings all over the place. It’s incredibly normal to feel the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
You will get back to your normal self soon. Even if you don’t, you’ll start to feel better about your situation. If your feelings of sadness or depression don’t go away, it’s time to speak to a licensed therapist who can help you on a clinical level. Your issue is far more complicated than just needing some extra rest or help around the house.
Your hormones will eventually settle and you’ll feel more at ease in your body. Don’t be surprised if there is a transitional period from giving birth to getting back to your pre-pregnancy self. You’ve got time, and with Bellefit, you’ve got tools! Our postpartum girdles have helped women from around the world feel more confident about their bodies after delivering.
As a pregnant woman, you’re required to follow lots of advice. The following list provides valuable insight and advice on what not to do after giving birth to a child. By following it and the suggestions given to you by your physician, you decrease the chances delaying your recovery. – Strenuous Exercising – Caffeine – Alcohol – Junk Food – Certain Types of Fish
It’s important that you steer clear of these things until your body has had time to fully heal and that you’re no longer breastfeeding your child. That way, you’re not taking any chances on you or your baby’s health. Instead, you’re postponing some of the things you may really be looking forward to doing, eating or drinking.
Yes! The front hook and eye closures of the Dual-Closure are designed with the incision in mind.
The main difference between the two styles is that the Dual-Closure (also known as a Double Corset) has the side zipper closure as well. Underneath the zipper are two sets of adjustable hook and eye closures (one near the top and one near the bottom).
Because it has both closure options, the Dual-Closure is able to be adjusted the most out of all of the other styles. Many moms like having the option of both closures in one girdle to also be able to choose which method is more convenient for them throughout their recovery. For example, in the beginning when your swelling is at its peak, you may find that it is easier for you to use just the front closure. Once you get a little farther along you may find that just using the zipper closure is more convenient for you.
Yes! The Dual-Closure is an excellent option for either delivery method.
The Dual-Closure is not bulky and is flush with your skin; however because of the front closure location, it may be slightly visible underneath certain fabrics or if you are wearing a fitted top. Keep in mind though that your comfort and healing process is the most important factor!
Yes! Keep in mind though that we generally recommend a Girdle with Hooks (Corset) after an abdominal surgery that may or may not be related to pregnancy. As always, consult with your physician to make sure that a compression garment is the best choice for your recovery.
As your body transforms after your delivery, you can adjust the settings when slightly more or less compression is needed.
The Dual Closure has two rows of hook and eye closures in the front that are separated by an inch apart and a lateral zipper on the side with two sets of hook and eye closures underneath.
Since the Dual-Closure is adjustable, it is suitable for all body type shapes.
Begin wearing your Dual-Closure the day that you are discharged from the hospital or as soon as you are ready to wear it after the delivery. It’s optimal to begin wearing Bellefit right after birth; however, you will still see results if you begin to wear your girdle at any time during the first 6 months after the delivery. As always, consult with your physician to make sure the Dual-Closure is right for you since every recovery process is so unique.
