Rainbow Baby - What it is, Emotions, and What to Expect
You may have seen babies wrapped in rainbow cloths or pregnancy announcements featuring rainbow colors and wondered, what’s with the rainbow? With a new wave of authenticity surrounding the struggles of pregnancy, more and more women are sharing the stories of their rainbow babies. But what is a rainbow baby? In this article, we will discuss the phrase ‘rainbow baby,’ what it means, emotions surrounding rainbow babies, and what to expect when you are pregnant with a rainbow baby.
What is a rainbow baby?
Rainbows are beautiful and bright symbols of sunshine and good weather after a storm. Rainbow babies are healthy babies that are born after a miscarriage, stillborn, infant loss, or neonatal death. These babies are the ‘rainbow’ that appears after a dark and stormy period. The phrase ‘rainbow baby’ has come to symbolize hope and healing and has become popular in recent years.
With the rise of social media and social media influencers, there has also been a rise in authenticity online. More and more women are bringing to light the struggles they experienced with pregnancy or becoming pregnant. What was once taboo to talk about is now becoming commonplace--as family YouTube channels, mommy bloggers, and Instagram influencers display their day-to-day lives and experiences.
With this rise of authenticity comes the good with the bad. Mothers have opened up about their miscarriages, the feelings they experience, the struggles with pregnancy, and the joys of it too. So, as these families and women open up they inspire people with their messages of hope in dark periods. There are many emotions that parents may struggle with when they become pregnant with a rainbow baby.
Emotions with a rainbow baby
When you become pregnant you are likely to experience feelings of excitement, anxiety, and happiness. The loss of a pregnancy or child can cause a lot of guilt and grief. When these emotions are closely tied together and can create a war within your own mind. On the one hand, you are excited and relieved to be pregnant again, but on the other hand, you feel guilty for being happy and anxious that it could happen again.
After the loss of a child, the feelings of grief and loss can be overwhelming. It is important that you take time to process and talk through your emotions. It can be hard, especially when you had just experienced so much joy at their arrival. Once you lose a child it is easy to fall into a depression and actively avoid feelings of happiness and fulfillment. This is because it feels like a betrayal to your baby. When you become pregnant again it can be hard to fully give yourself over to the feelings of happiness and joy like you once did.
Anxiety is a very common emotion that parents pregnant with a rainbow baby may experience. You are likely nervous that something could happen to your new baby, scared to get your hopes up in case something does happen, and afraid you may do something wrong. It is important that you share your emotions and feelings with someone that you trust--whether that is your partner, a doctor, a therapist, or a family member.
What to expect with a rainbow baby pregnancy
After learning of your pregnancy and dealing with the influx of emotions, you will likely want to monitor your baby closely. Make sure you talk to your doctor, or physician, about your concerns with this new pregnancy. They can offer you advice and monitor your baby’s activity closely to ensure that you have a healthy pregnancy. They can also provide you with accommodations and assistance with your emotions during this time.
Some women choose not to tell family members they are pregnant with a rainbow baby until they feel comfortable. Other women choose to tell their family members and seek support from them through this difficult time. Joining grief groups or seeking out support to process your emotions is essential.
A rainbow baby pregnancy can feel like the light at the end of the tunnel. All the trauma and grief you experienced is still there. But it is dimmed by the happiness you are experiencing now. All of the bad things about pregnancy don’t seem as bad because you have a healthy baby to look forward to. Morning nausea means that your baby is growing, and feeling the baby kick can bring overwhelming joy.
Women who have experienced a loss of a pregnancy or the loss of a child are more likely to have postpartum depression, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress, or sleeping disorders. Having a good support system is the key to overcoming these things.
Key Takeaways
A rainbow baby is a pregnancy after a loss. They are a beacon of hope and a promise of future happiness after a dark period of time. Pregnancy with a rainbow baby can bring up a lot of emotions. Processing your emotions with someone and talking about them can help fight the depression and anxiety that can come.
Your postpartum journey is bound to be rife with conflicting emotions. Don’t make it worse with the physical pain that you can experience. Invest in a Bellefit postpartum girdle and recover quickly and with less pain. Focus on yourself and processing your emotions not on the pain, with the help of a postpartum girdle.

The Best Postpartum Girdle
I see hundreds of moms during a week and the ones that need the Bellefit and purchase the Bellefit have greatly greatly benefited from the physical alleviation of discomfort.
With the postpartum moms usually the Bellefit Postpartum Girdles are worn right after birth and this has been an extreme benefit to helping moms bring the abdominal muscles back together and make them feel so much better about their bodies coming back to pre-pregnancy size after birth. Even with c-section it’s been wonderful to help them keep those abdominal muscles and the uterus intact. I am a certified childbirth educator so I do spend a lot of time educating women and couples helping them to prepare for labor and birth and working with them after birth with the babies. I am a certified doula and childbirth educator. Prenatal + Yoga is a Miami specialty center for pregnancy, birth and beyond. We are located in the heart of Coral Gables. I wore the postpartum girdle day and night for the first six weeks
I am here to talk to you about the Bellefit postpartum girdle. This is my third child and I did not wear a compression girdle with my 2 previous children.
I wish I had known about these, the difference is unbelievable.
I've been wearing the girdle since 4 days postpartum and the main things I've noticed are less back pain; when you carry a baby around for almost 10 months you back muscles get weak and this girdle has really helped relieve that.
I also notice better posture - I feel like I stand and sit straighter, my self esteem is up.
It’s a great feeling to go the grocery store and have someone ask you how old your baby is, and when you tell them they say “wow! You look great” – I never experience that with my other 2 children.
The cramping during nursing, if you breastfeed your baby, it covers the first few weeks and I noticed when I didn’t have the girdle on it was extremely painful, but when I was wearing the girdle it was noticeably less.
The baby pooch that you get has drastically gotten smaller; I’ll show you the side view, so I’m wearing it right now and actually I’m wearing the postpartum compression girdle with the side zipper and I found that this made it easier to get on and off.
I wore the girdle day and night for the first six weeks and now I only wear it during the day and I’m getting ready to go down to the smaller size and I’m really looking forward to that.
And so, overall, this is a great product and I highly recommend it.
If there’s any questions you have that I wasn’t able to answer you can probably contact the company and they can answer them for you or I really don’t mind if they contact me and I can answer and they can get back to you.
So I hope you found this review helpful and good luck in your process. Thank you.
The Bellefit Girdle Really Helped Me Move around after My C-Section
Hi guys, I'm Norma and I wanted to talk to you about the Bellefit corset. I actually purchased this a couple months before I had my baby girl and I just had her two weeks ago and I've been wearing it for about ten days.
Was the Bellefit Girdle Comfortable?
It's really comfortable. I found that it really helped me in doing things around the house and moving around, getting out of bed. I had a C-Section so it really helped keep pressure on the surgery and I really think it's helped with the healing as well. I got it fairly quickly and I have no complaints.
The product is really good quality. I think the fabric is just great, it doesn't stretch out and when you wash it or anything it really keeps its shape.
How Long Can You Wear the Girdle For
I wear it all day, from the minute I wake up to the minute I go to bed. I found that it really helped bring my waist area back together and two weeks after my baby was born I am able to wear my pre-pregnancy clothes and am also down to my pre-pregnancy weight. I think the corset really helped with that.
I've gotten a lot of compliments and I've been showing my friends what I've been wearing to help get everything back. I definitely recommend it and I think its a great product. I am not wearing it right now, but I think for having had my baby two weeks ago, I think its fairly good. I have a little bit of work to do once I tighten everything up, but I think Bellefit has really helped me so far.
The Bellefit Corset Slimmed Me Instantly
"I ordered my Bellefit about seven months ago before my fourth child was born, he's seven months old now. I got it within a week and I was very pleased with the delivery.
I had looked online a lot, a lot of different reviews and Bellefit seemed to have the best postpartum corset. So I ordered it.
I started wearing Bellefit about four days after my son was born and I felt so secure in it. It took everything and just put it into place, it held me tight and I felt so confident because it just slimmed me instantly. It's just a great shape. It's easy to go to the bathroom, easy to put on and off by myself. It was comfortable.
I would recommend this to anyone and I have already recommended it. Thank you so much."

The Bellefit Corset helped my belly shrink down faster compared to my first pregnancy
Laura discovered the Bellefit Girdles and wore one after the birth of her second baby. Bellefit helped her bounce back faster than after her first pregnancy.
"Hi I am Laura and I'm here to tell you about my experience with the Bellefit maternity girdle. I have the side-zip girdle. I started wearing it a few days after I came home from giving birth to my second child. I have been wearing it for about a month and there are a lot of things I like about it.
First of all, it's really easy to put on. Second of all, it's really comfortable once it's on. It provides terrific back support, I feel better with it on than off for that reason. It makes it a lot easier to hold my new baby and run around after my toddler.
I like that it stays in place, it does not budge. I can still breastfeed with it on, it does not get in the way. It absolutely stays put. I definitely think it's helped my belly shrink down faster than it would otherwise as compared to my first pregnancy. I definitely notice a difference and other people have commented too.
I am really glad I found this product and it's definitely something I would recommend to friends and family members, because it's helped me bounce back faster, it provides great support, it reminds me to watch my posture and it's quite comfortable. I'm glad I found it. Thank you!."

How Long Until I Fit in my Pre-Pregnancy Clothes?
When will I Fit into my Pre-Pregnancy Clothes Again?
What a great question! Most women worry a little bit about this, and the answer is highly individual. How long it takes you to return to your pre-pregnancy clothes depends on several factors, including:
How much weight you gained during pregnancy,
How active you are, and what body type you have.
If you eat healthy foods and get moderate exercise, you should begin to lose your baby weight fairly quickly. Some women who breastfeed lose most of their weight quickly, but then hold on to about ten pounds until they wean their babies. There is no reason why you should not be able to fit into your pre-pregnancy clothes within a year of your baby’s birth.
After nine months of pregnancy, you are probably anxious to wear your “real” clothes again.
As almost every woman knows, feeling good in your pre-pregnancy clothes can work wonders for your emotional state. Here are some tips:
Wear your favorite items as much as possible.
When you can, style your hair, and put on a little makeup, too.
The early weeks and months of your baby’s life are an intense adjustment period for new mothers.
Well-fitting clothes can’t help your baby sleep through the night but they can help you feel a little bit like your old self again!
Getting Back to Pre-Pregnancy Shape
After nine months of pregnancy, you are probably anxious to wear your “real” clothes again. Pulling out the clothes you packed away while you were pregnant may feel like a shopping spree! But don’t get too excited about your pre-pregnancy clothes too quickly. Most women need several weeks, or even months, before fitting into their pre-pregnancy wardrobe.
What to Wear Home from the Hospital After Giving Birth
When you are packing your bag for the hospital, make sure to pack something comfortable to wear when you go home.
Most women still look about six months pregnant in the first few days after birth, so choose your outfit accordingly. Packing something that you feel comfortable, yet beautiful, in will make your trip home all the more enjoyable.
Whose Body is This?
A few weeks after having your baby your body will begin to change.
Wearing pants or shorts with wide, stretchy waistbands will be most comfortable as your belly begins to shrink. If you’ve had a c-section, this type of clothing will ease some of the discomfort associated with your incision.
Wearing underwear that comes up over your incision or rests below it will be more comfortable as well.
If you choose to breastfeed your baby, you will want to wear tops that accommodate your larger chest size. You will also need nursing bras during this phase.
It is important that you wear bras that fit properly and support your breasts. If you are able to, go to a store where you can be fit for the right size nursing bra.
An ill-fitting nursing bra can contribute to blocked ducts or discomfort as your breasts change size throughout the day.
Does wearing a Postpartum Girdle help?
Woman Wearing Postpartum Girdle
One of the best ways to ease your discomfort after a c-section is to use an abdominal binder or compression girdle. Some OB/GYNs will recommend them to new moms when a c-section has been scheduled. Compression is a post-operative option for many types of surgery because it speeds the healing process. By increasing circulation to the area under compression, the damaged tissues experience a better immune response and receive more blood, nutrients, and oxygen.
According to Bellefit Reviews, the Abdominal Binder Speeds Healing
Bellefit girdles also support the lower back by holding in the abdominal wall. This improves a woman's posture, which can be very poor during the initial postpartum period. Bellefit offers a medical grade compression garment that is perfect for women who have had c-sections.
Sometimes the pain associated with childbirth recovery from natural birth or c-section can interfere with establishing successful breastfeeding, too. Although there are a few situations in which c-sections cannot be avoided, it is best to try to prevent the surgery and allow your body to give birth the way nature intended.
I wore my Bellefit every day as long as I could, and while taking care of the kids. It was so helpful for me, picking up my son who was 13 months when the twins were born and it not hurting my separated abdominals. Alexandra H.
I heard about Bellefit long before I even conceived and knew that I would purchase a corset whenever I did have a child because the before/after pictures showed amazing results. Dana H.

New Mommies out There, Bellefit Has Worked for Me and I Hope It Works for You Too
"Hi I'm Luisa from Texas. I've been using the Bellefit girdle ever since I gave delivery to my baby. It's been 2 months now and I love it. I've seen the results, it works. One of the things I love about it is it helps you with your belly; it also helps you with your back support and posture."
I am actually wearing it right now, and it's really really comfy. You can barely tell you are wearing a girdle, you can wear it when you work out, it doesn't bother you or anything.
I bought the medium-sized girdle. I went ahead and used the online calculator for that; it helps you to find out which size you are.
I was a size 7 in jeans so I bought the medium size. I bought the one with the zipper on the side, this is great for both natural and C-section, so I went ahead and bought this one.
(Disclaimer: Bellefit Girdle with Zipper is recommended after c-section only after the incision has healed. For moms who have had a c-section and need immediate postpartum support, Bellefit recommends the Corset and the Dual-Closure Girdle)
"I highly recommend this for all the new mommies out there, that are trying to buy a girdle, this one is great. Bellefit has worked for me and I hope it works for you, so good luck with that."

"My Body Bounced Back Faster than my Other Pregnancies"
Katie R. wore a Bellefit Corset after giving birth to her third daughter and was able to recover from childbirth significantly faster than with her two previous pregnancies!
"When I delivered my third daughter I wore a Bellefit <Corset> from the first day and I have to say that my body bounced back incredibly fast, faster than my other pregnancies.
With my first daughter, it took me about nine months before I was able to wear my pre-pregnancy jeans again.
With the second it was probably another four or five months.
And with this child, I was wearing my pre-pregnancy jeans on day four!"

I didn't have to wear my maternity clothes after childbirth at all!
Ashley used a Bellefit Girdle after the birth of her second baby and didn't have to wear maternity clothes at all after childbirth!
Hi I’m Ashley, I used the Bellefit postpartum girdle for my second pregnancy. I didn’t get to use one for my first because I didn’t know it existed. A friend actually referred me to get one.
It is the best thing ever got. I wish I had it with my first pregnancy; it brought me down to a reasonable size in such a reasonable amount of time.
I don’t actually think I wore maternity clothes after having my baby.

I think I was able to go into my regular sized clothes which is wonderful because, you know, as a mom who has just had a baby, we are all so conscious about our bodies, but this product is just, it’s amazing!
It helps with your back, and you know, to keep everything tight and able to heal back together and when you get to wear your clothes that you have been waiting to wear since after you had the baby, that’s what you really want to do, you want to get back in your clothes, it’s just wonderful.
The sizing chart that they have, it worked perfect for me, I didn’t have any troubles with it, it’s just such a wonderful product!
And it doesn’t, it’s not Velcro so you don’t have to worry about it folding down on you.
It stays up and you can’t notice it under your clothes. I would recommend it to everybody, and I have, from the rooftops.
Every woman should have this, if they are pregnant or planning to be pregnant!”
